Please someone offer advice on this?

I have been talking to this guy for a long time now. He is a Muslim and I am an American. He told me up front that we could never be together, but things have changed over time. I know this man loves me and I am helplessly in love with him, so much that I am being tortured by it. He had even said that he has thought of changing his views of marriage and tradition. Last time we talked he could not hold his emotions in, he said all the words I have ever wanted to hear from him, but here comes the problem. Now he is ignoring me, and I know it can not be because of anything I have done, but still it is killing me. He could not even look at me last time we talked.. Why is he ignoring me?
